General description of the collection: The Philip A. Costello papers consists of a letter written by Costello on 6 October 1999 for inclusion in the World War II Veterans Survey. In his letter, Costello describes conversations that he witnessed between General Woods and General Patton, and his intentional coughing to remind the arguing generals of his presence. He also describes overhearing a telephone conversation in which General Woods promised to send Brigadier General Dager to help another unit.
